Grandchildren's Cakes
Our grand daughter Kelsey graduated two weeks after Jase here in Lubbock and this is the graduation cake for her. Her School mascot is also the Mustangs - just a different color. We had a family dinner gathering before her graduation to honor her.
Three weeks later Kelsey turned 18. Edible soft fondant pearls were use to spell out her birthay message. CK's large impression mat was used for texture on the top of the cake.
I have had many questions about transporting stacked cakes. This cake was stacked in Lubbock, TX and decorated to this point (without the top horse and flowers) and we put it in the van on a non skid mat and headed for Colorado (an all day drive). Decorated the cake with the flowers in the photo to the right. The stress free support system is used in this cake.
These flowers and leaves were transported in these two boxes and added to the cake in the hotel room and at the reception site for the 2008 graduates.
Tropical Hibiscus was the class choice of a class flower. The horses on the second tier up is a replica of the sign in front of this school which is on the Northern Prairie in Colorado.
Jase is our grandson and this is the graduation cake for his class in 2008.
Morgan's birthday was the week I was preparing for the reunion. Since she lives in Colorado I don't have the opportunity to do a cake for her very often. Couldn't miss this opportunity.
We had a big family reunion to celebrate mom's 90th year. Her birthday is in October and we celebrated it early with the reunion the end of May 2007.
Brook's 20th Birthday Cake
Brooke was making plans to go on a mission trip with her church to Kenya, Africa.
The map was done from fondant and hand painted with animal prints.
Gumpaste flowers and leaves with a rice paper butterfly
Lettering done from fondant with the Patchwork Initial cutters and airbrushed for shading.
Brooke and Brandon are cousins with Birthdays very close together. They celebrated their birthdays together with their families.
Boots, hat, and fence are hand molded. Barb wire was extruded with the Sugarcraft gun and the barbs piped with royal icing. Gumpaste bare grass.
The Patchwork Initial cutters were also used for his lettering. Cut from chocolate fondant and airbrushed with darker brown for the shading.
Kelsey's 16th Birthday Cake. A car of her own is the dream - but, mom and dad haven't found a good one yet.
That is the reason for all of the car keys.
Molds were made from Silicone Plastique using assorted car keys for models
so the keys looked pretty real even though they were sugar.
Kelsey was dissapointed that one of those keys wasn't real
but she did get her car some time later

Kelsey's 9th Birthday
Kelsey and her sister put the bathing suits on the teddy grahams and decorated the top of the cake. A fun project for them.
Thanks ACD for a really cute idea for a birthday cake that the kids could do themselves

Brooke's 13th Birthday Cake
What fun for a sleep over party. A cake that looks like a sleeping bag complete with nail polish, pj's, shopping bag, bra and panties, pillow and magazine announcing the birthday girls birthday.

Of course they are all sugar. Even the pillow and nail polish. The top part of the sleeping bag was made from rolled fondant along with most of the extra things. The inside of the bag was done with buttercream icing for a texture difference.
